Hi, I’m Rick Sessinghaus, PGA coach and coach for Collin Morikawa.
I don’t know about you, but making these putts can make or break a round. And if you’ve looked at your stats and you may not be making this length putt as much, a lot of it has to do with direction. More specifically, your clubface at impact.
Your clubface has the biggest effect on the direction, so we have to control the clubface, which is done through the hands.
One of my favorite drills is to do a one hand only drill. So I’m going to hit the first putt with just my left hand on and really get an idea of how the clubface is controlled with that hand.
Then I’ll do right hand only. And then finally, put both hands on there and see how where my hands go affects the clubface, so hands equals clubface.
But sometimes people have a dominant hand, so we’re trying to train it back. We want that left hand to stay square, palm of that right hand to stay square, you put them together and now that clubface is square, you’re hitting the ball on your line and you’re going to make more putts.
